Lucrative Week for Factor X
Posted by BowlerCluke Tuesday, July 1, 2008 10:34 PM

It may have been a quiet and relatively unproductive conclusion to Factor X's tournament season in Albuquerque this past week, but little did they know that as they were struggling on this year's National Championships pattern, the fruits of their 2008 labors were rolling into their mailbox in the form of prize fund checks from Rutland, Vermont (Green Mountain Open), Gardner (Massachusetts State Championships) and Shelburne, Vermont (Champlain International Tournament).

First in was Matt Coe and Jimmy Girard's $165 payday for finishing 8th in the GMO scratch doubles event with a total of 1,449 pins. Right behind that came checks of $746, $71 and $20 from the Massachusetts USBC State Championships tournament, bowled this year in Factor X's home house of Gardner, Massachusetts. The team's 5th place finish in the handicap team event will earn Bill Allen, Will Allen, Tom Clukay, Matt Coe and Jimmy Girard $146.80 each, Coe and Girard will take home some extra cash for their all-events scores; Girard earning $71 for a 7th place handicap finish and Coe earning $20 for finishing in 8th place scratch.

But all these checks were merely foreplay for this year's cash cow, the Champlain International Tournament. The team took home in excess of $2,000, headed up this year by team rookie Gary Subocz' huge $1,088 payday. Subocz cashed in the top five of the handicap doubles event twice, finishing 2nd with teammate Jimmy Girard and 5th with partner Henry Caouette. Needless to say, that meant big paydays for Girard and Caouette as well; Girard earned $762.50 for his half of the doubles event with Subocz, while Caouette took home $325.50 for his part in "the other" doubles event. Also coming away with a nice little paycheck was Matt Coe, who earned $136.50 for finishing in 5th place all-events scratch and his 34th place finish with doubles partner Tom Clukay in doubles. Finally, Clukay received a token check of $26.50 for his part in that same doubles event.

It was the second year in a row Factor X earned an excess of $2,000 at the CIT. Last year, teammates Tom Clukay and Matt Coe split the lion's share of the team's $2,500-plus paycheck.
