Respectable
Tour Opener for Factor X

While the 2007-08 running of the Green Mountain Open will not go down in the
annals of Factor X history as one of their better money-makers, it will go down
as a great confidence builder for most of the team's members who participated.
It didn't take long for the team to get it's first curve ball thrown at them
this year; just one-half week before embarking on the trip to Rutland, team
captain Tom Clukay received the news that the team's newest part-time member,
Gary Subocz, would have to back out of the tournament due to unexpected major
car expenses that had exhausted his financial resources. Enter surprise
emergency substitute Matt Cardullo.
"Thank goodness for Matt Coe and his list of seemingly inexhaustible resources,"
team captain Tom Clukay offered. "Here we are figuring we're going to have to
settle for an emergency sub from Rutland with who-knows-what for an average, and
Matt comes up with Matt Cardullo as a replacement. Talk about an uptick!"
All Cardullo did in weekend number one was shoot big 700 sets twice in doubles,
nailing down two of the top three doubles spots in the standings shooting 1475
with brother Mike and 1465 with teammate Mike Klosin. And while his performance
with Factor X may not have been quite the scoring barrage he had hoped for, he
was still nonetheless a solid contributor and fit in quite comfortably with the
rest of the team - so much so in fact, that the team has extended an invitation
to attend this year's Lilac tournament with them.
Of the Factor X regulars, the best performance in this year's
opening tour stop was turned in by Matt Coe and Jimmy Girard, who fired 1449 in
the doubles event, which has them currently sitting in fifth place scratch and
tenth place handicap. Their doubles performance should earn them a nice little
paycheck to start this year's tournament season.
And while it's doubtful that anybody else from the team will
earn anything more than a possible "token check or two" for their efforts,
almost everyone left feeling pretty good about their games heading into the
heart of the tournament season. Five of the six X-men who participated
(including Cardullo) bowled 600 or better in virtually all of their events, and
will no doubt be looking forward to April's next stop in Shelburne, Vermont with
great anticipation.
In addition to the solid performances turned in by the X
Force, there were several outstanding performances by other members of the
Gardner contingent that Factorxbowling.com feels are worthy of special mention:
-
Congratulations to Ricky LaChance on his perfect 300 game!
-
Congratulations to Mike Budwick for his tournament-leading
804 singles score!
-
Congratulations to John Zawalick, Dan McCormick, Jason
Hebert, Jim Calway and Mike Johnson for additional fine doubles and singles
scores that has Gardner, MA well-represented on this year's leaderboard!
... and a special thank you to Steve Budwick, who once again
did a terrific job scheduling and coordinating this year's excursion to the
heart of ski country central!
