Breaking News: Return of the Gold Crown?

Now before anyone goes screaming out into the streets at this
point, you should all know that everything I am about to say is only in its very
earliest formative stages, and is therefore far from a done deed. That said
however, let it be known that I have it on some very reliable sources that the
Gold Crown Open may once again return to Saint Johnsbury, Vermont for the
2009-10 bowling season!
Rumor has
it that while previous tournament director Robert Bigelow has not had a change
of heart regarding running the tournament, other prominent members of Gold Crown
Lanes who are missing the holiday tournament comradery and festivities have
decided that enough is enough, and that if previous tournament management is not
interested in resurrecting the tournament, they themselves are… and will. Adding
still more momentum to the Gold Crown movement is the rumor that a resurrection
of the tournament would be fully supported by Gold Crown staff… meaning that as
it stands right now, there is very little standing in the way of a return to
Saint Johnsbury, Vermont next December, provided those who appear interested and
willing to step into Bob Bigelow’s huge tournament shoes are able to follow
through with that commitment.
Tom Clukay wasted no time going on record to say that should
the Gold Crown Open be reincarnated in 2009-10, his team would among the first
to officially sign on board:
“Brattleboro this year was nice and Burl [Penton] was great
to us, but as I said before, the New England Classic just lacked something when
compared to the Gold Crown. For me and my team, the Gold Crown is the
definitive ‘New England Classic‘ tournament, and with no disrespect to Burl and
his staff intended, if the Gold Crown is back next year, it’s bye-bye Bratt,
hello Saint ‘J’.”
